Monster of the Day #715

I know the movie must suck, but man, the monsters!!

  • Flangepart

The monsters. Yeah the blue thing on the left is pretty creepy too.

  • Ken_Begg

Booooo! That guy starred in Westworld, for Pete’s sake.

  • SteveWD

    Westworld is awesome!!! Just sayin’

  • SteveWD

And is more satisfying in just about every way (except for FX) than Jurassic Park.

  • Ken_Begg

You got that right! I saw it at the historic Pickwick Theatre (across the street from where I work right now) as a lad, on a double bill with Wicked Wicked!

  • Ericb

    How was the Duo-Vision?

  • Flangepart

Bwa-hahahaha! Oh, and LOVE AT FIRST BITE.

  • Ken_Begg

Revolutionary! As we now know, just as the trailer predicted, Duo-Vision changed films as much as the introduction of sound or color did.

  • Rock Baker

I don’t know what it is, but I really want to see it now!

  • MrTongoRad

Between yesterday and today I need some answers! What are these things?!!

And looking up Richard Benjamin on IMDB didn’t seem to help all that much…

  • Cullen Waters

    Saturday the 14th.

  • Cullen Waters

You know, I’ve seen Westworld far more often, but whenever I see Richard Benjamin the first thing I think of is Last of Sheila. For some reason his performance in that (particularly towards the end) left a mark.

  • Rock Baker

No kidding? This looks like a ‘real’ movie! Well, that settles it, I have to see it!

  • Cullen Waters

I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure it is. The number of monster movies Richard Benjamin was in is pretty low.

  • Luke Blanchard

Also the TV series QUARK, and WITCHES’ BREW (1980).

  • zombiewhacker

If I recall correctly, Tom Smothers starred in a horror spoof around the same time called Thursday the 12th, but when Richard Benjamin’s film came out first, the Smothers film had to be retitled Pandemonium so audiences wouldn’t get confused.

  • Bill Hiers

They’re monsters that come from the Book of Evil in Saturday the 14th. The plot involves a family inheriting an old house with the book in it, and the son finds and opens it, releasing the monsters. They try and get the book so it can’t be used to re-imprison them. Richard Benjamin plays the doofy, clueless father. Jeffrey Tambor has a supporting role as one half of a bickering vampire couple.

  • MrTongoRad

Good to know. I don’t know how I missed that one.

  • Rock Baker

    That one I saw, sadly….
